Patna: The Road Construction Department has imposed restrictions on a bridge over the Sone Canal on Chausa Road in Sasaram after cracks were detected in one of its girders.
The decision was taken following media reports and local inspections that highlighted structural concerns in the nearly 50-year-old bridge.
Safety Restrictions Imposed
Officials said the movement of heavy vehicles has been prohibited with immediate effect in view of public safety and the current condition of the 28-metre-long structure. Light vehicles, however, will continue to be allowed to pass.
The department said the step was precautionary to prevent any further stress on the damaged portion of the bridge.
Inspection and Technical Assessment
Experts from the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation Limited inspected the site to assess the extent of damage.
According to the department, the team has been tasked with evaluating repair requirements and supporting immediate restoration planning.
Repair Work to Begin Soon
The Road Construction Department said repair work will begin shortly after the cost estimate is received.
Officials added that necessary steps are being taken to ensure structural stability and restore safe traffic movement at the earliest.
