Patna: The Bihar government has approved a set of significant reforms for the state’s higher education sector, including the launch of new research funding schemes, centralised recruitment of assistant professors for newly established government colleges, and the rollout of updated postgraduate curricula.
The decisions were taken during a high-level meeting on higher education chaired by the Governor at Bihar Lok Bhawan in Patna on Friday. Senior officials from the Education Department, Raj Bhavan and the state government attended the meeting.
Three New Schemes to Promote Research
To strengthen research and innovation across universities, the meeting approved the implementation of three major initiatives—the Chancellor’s Post-Doctoral Fellowship, the Chief Minister Research Grant Scheme, and the Chief Minister Research Scholarship Scheme.
The schemes are aimed at providing financial assistance to research scholars and young academicians, encouraging quality research and improving Bihar’s academic ecosystem.
Centralised Faculty Recruitment for 211 Colleges
The meeting also approved a centralised recruitment process for appointing contractual Assistant Professors in 211 newly established Government Degree Colleges across the state.
The move is expected to make the recruitment process more transparent while helping address faculty shortages in the newly created institutions.
Revised PG Curriculum by Early July
Another key decision was to complete the approval process for revised curricula in 43 postgraduate subjects by the first week of July.
The updated syllabus is expected to be implemented in the upcoming academic session, allowing students to study under a more contemporary curriculum while giving a boost to academic activities in state universities.
Senior Leaders Present
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Higher Education Minister Sanjay Singh Tiger, and senior officials from the Education Department and Raj Bhavan.
The decisions are being viewed as an important step towards strengthening Bihar’s higher education system, expanding research opportunities, and improving academic standards across universities and government degree colleges.
