Patna: Bihar’s on-site geo-tagging initiative for rural housing has earned national recognition at the two-day National Rural Development Conference held in New Delhi, with the state’s model being acknowledged as one of the country’s best practices under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).
The conference, held on June 28 and 29, brought together Rural Development Ministers from states and Union Territories to deliberate on strategies for accelerating rural prosperity and achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047
The event was inaugurated by Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan under the theme “Gramodaya Se Rashtroudaya”, highlighting the central role of villages in India’s long-term development journey.
Bihar’s geo-tagging initiative receives national appreciation
Representing Bihar at the conference, Rural Development and Information & Public Relations Minister Shravan Kumar said the state’s on-site geo-tagging initiative has significantly improved transparency, accuracy and monitoring in the implementation of PMAY-G.
The initiative was recognised among the country’s leading best practices in rural housing, drawing appreciation at the national forum.
Focus on housing and rural welfare
Addressing the conference, Shravan Kumar said the Bihar Government has provided housing to a large number of families under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana.
He also stressed the need to repair and renovate houses constructed before 2015, stating that improving older rural housing remains an important priority alongside new construction.
Commitment to inclusive rural development
The minister reiterated that the Bihar Government is working to strengthen grassroots governance, expand livelihood opportunities and ensure that the benefits of rural development schemes reach every eligible household.
He added that Bihar’s participation in the national conference reflects the shared commitment of the Centre and the states towards building a developed, self-reliant and prosperous rural India by 2047.
