Patna/New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday in New Delhi, with discussions centred on key road infrastructure projects across the state.
The meeting, held at Gadkari’s residence, was also attended by Bihar Road Construction Minister Engineer Shailendra and senior departmental officials. Officials reviewed the status of national highway and expressway projects in Bihar.
Focus on Major Expressway Corridors
According to officials, the discussions included progress on the Gorakhpur–Siliguri Expressway, Raxaul–Haldia corridor, and the Buxar–Bhagalpur route.

Road Construction Minister Shailendra said after the meeting that there was broad agreement on advancing several pending highway projects and resolving bottlenecks affecting implementation.
Clearance of Stalled Projects
Officials also discussed National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects that have been delayed due to land acquisition issues, encroachment challenges, and pending forest clearances.
The state government said efforts are underway to coordinate with central agencies to speed up resolution of such hurdles.
Proposal to Upgrade Highway Capacity
Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal said Bihar has proposed upgrading select four-lane highways to six lanes to accommodate rising traffic demand and improve connectivity.
The proposal also includes faster resolution of land acquisition challenges in areas where construction work has slowed or stalled.
Visit Schedule and Political Context
Choudhary travelled from Patna to Delhi on Monday afternoon, visiting Bihar Bhawan before heading to Gadkari’s residence. He is expected to return to Patna later in the day.
The meeting comes amid political discussions in Delhi regarding a possible reshuffle in the Union Council of Ministers, although no official confirmation has been issued in this regard.
