Patna: Bihar is set to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) education, skill development and apprenticeship-based industrial training into undergraduate studies across government colleges as part of efforts to strengthen employability under the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The Governor’s Secretariat is preparing a common programme that will introduce AI learning, industry-linked training and practical skill development for students enrolled in 268 constituent colleges and 211 newly established government degree colleges. The new system will begin in the newly established colleges from the next academic session.
Focus On Employability
According to officials in the Governor’s Secretariat, the initiative aims to ensure that students graduate with practical skills in addition to academic qualifications. Officials said a university degree alone is no longer sufficient to guarantee employment, making industry-oriented education a priority.
The proposed framework will combine classroom learning with practical exposure so that students are better prepared for emerging technologies and workplace requirements.
Industry Experts To Participate
As part of the proposed changes, industry professionals, including experts with experience in AI companies, are expected to conduct classroom sessions and provide practical insights into current technologies.
Officials said the curriculum is being designed to align with industry needs, allowing students to gain relevant knowledge and professional exposure during their undergraduate studies.
Apprenticeship-Embedded Degree Programme
The state also plans to introduce an Apprenticeship-Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP) in all government degree colleges from the new academic session.
Under the programme, students will undergo industrial training alongside their academic courses, enabling them to gain workplace experience before graduation. Officials said the practical exposure is intended to improve job readiness and help students transition more smoothly into professional careers.
AI Beyond Textbooks
The Governor’s Secretariat said the proposed reforms seek to modernise higher education by integrating AI into teaching beyond theoretical instruction. The initiative is expected to emphasise hands-on learning, technological skills and industry collaboration as part of Bihar’s implementation of NEP 2020.
