Patna: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor offered prayers at the historic Baba Hariharnath Temple in Sonepur on Monday morning before filing his nomination for the Bankipur Assembly by-election.
Kishor performed religious rituals at the temple and prayed for the happiness, peace and prosperity of Bihar before beginning the day’s election programme.
Temple Visit Draws Attention
Photographs and videos of Prashant Kishor’s visit to the temple quickly circulated on social media, with supporters describing the visit as an auspicious beginning to his election campaign.
Several devotees and visitors at the temple also interacted with him and posed for photographs.
Symbolic Start To Campaign
Visiting a place of worship before filing nomination papers has long been a common practice among political leaders during elections.
By beginning his nomination day with prayers at Baba Hariharnath Temple, Kishor followed a tradition often associated with seeking blessings before entering the electoral contest.
Nomination Day Marks Key Milestone
Monday is the final day for filing nominations for the Bankipur Assembly by-election, where polling is scheduled for July 30.
Prashant Kishor is expected to submit his nomination papers later in the day after a roadshow with party workers.
Following the filing of his nomination, he is also scheduled to address a public meeting at the Scout and Guide Ground in Patna.
BJP Also Plans Roadshow
The BJP’s candidate, Neeraj Kumar Sinha, is also expected to file his nomination on Monday.
According to party sources, he will travel from the BJP state office to the nomination venue as part of a roadshow. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and BJP state president Sanjay Sarawagi are expected to accompany him.
With both major candidates set to file their nominations on the final day, the Bankipur by-election campaign is expected to gather momentum in the coming days.
