Chennai: The Mysore-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a goods train near Chennai in Tamil Nadu on October 11 at 8:30 PM, resulting in the derailment of 12 coaches. One coach and a personal van caught fire in the incident. A total of 19 people sustained injuries, while 1,360 passengers were on board the train at the time of the accident.
Among the injured was Vinod Yadav (42), a resident of Gohiya village in the Bahadurpur police station area of Darbhanga. He recounted the harrowing experience of the accident.
“I boarded the train from Perambur in Chennai at 8 PM, heading home to Darbhanga for the Diwali and Chhath holidays,” Yadav said. “Half an hour after departure, the train suddenly started shaking, and people began to scream. When we managed to get out, we saw chaos, with people running everywhere.”
Yadav described the terrifying scene as a loud noise filled the air, causing the bogie to overturn.
Alok Kumar (55) and Daisy Bartiyar (52), both from Patna, were traveling in the B2 AC bogie. Kumar said, “Suddenly, the bogie overturned. The B1 bogie in front climbed over the other bogie. I was returning from CMC Vellore after my wife’s treatment, having boarded the train around 7:45 PM.”
Kumar continued, “Around 8:30 PM, as we passed through a dense forest, the train started shaking violently. Within moments, my bogie overturned, and my wife fainted. I was at a loss for what to do. Fortunately, some people came to help and assisted us out of the bogie. When I managed to get out, I saw that the B1 bogie had climbed over another bogie.”
In the chaos, one bogie was on fire, and screams filled the air as passengers fled in panic. With the help of the authorities, Kumar and his wife were taken to a government hospital, where she regained consciousness after treatment. They later boarded a local train in the morning to return to Chennai before continuing their journey back to Patna by another train.
