Patna: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna on Wednesday inaugurated neonatal care equipment donated by Bank of India under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, strengthening the institute’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) capacity.
The donated equipment includes six radiant warmers and six pulse oximeters, which will support the operationalisation of six additional NICU beds, according to AIIMS Patna officials.
Equipment To Improve Critical Newborn Care
The inauguration ceremony was led by Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Patna, Prof. (Brig.) Dr. Raju Agarawal, in the presence of Medical Superintendent Prof. Dr. Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy Director (Administration) Nilotpal Bal, senior faculty members and Bank of India officials.
Agarawal said the CSR support would enhance the institute’s ability to provide advanced treatment to critically ill newborns. He added that the additional infrastructure would help reduce referral pressure and address challenges caused by limited NICU bed availability.
Prof. Dr. Prashant Kumar Singh said the new equipment would improve AIIMS Patna’s capacity to manage high-risk and critically ill newborns by enabling the addition of six functional NICU beds.
Support For Healthcare Infrastructure
Deputy Director (Administration) Nilotpal Bal said the expansion of NICU facilities would ease pressure on existing resources and improve access to specialised neonatal services for patients from Bihar and neighbouring states.
Representing Bank of India, Deputy General Manager S. Malaya Das, Zonal Manager O. P. Choudhary, Branch Manager (AIIMS Patna) Amitesh Kumar and other officials attended the programme.
Bank officials reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting public healthcare infrastructure through CSR initiatives and collaborations with healthcare institutions.
Clinical Impact Of New Equipment
Head of the Department of Neonatology, Dr. Bhabesh Kant Chowdhary, said the newly installed radiant warmers and pulse oximeters would support better thermal regulation, continuous oxygen saturation monitoring and closer observation of critically ill newborns.
Faculty members and staff from the Department of Neonatology also attended the inauguration programme.
The initiative is expected to strengthen AIIMS Patna’s neonatal care services and improve access to specialised treatment for newborns in Bihar and eastern India.
