Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Thursday conducted simultaneous raids at six locations linked to Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, Executive Engineer of the Minor Irrigation Division in Rohtas, as part of an investigation into allegations of disproportionate assets.
According to the EOU, a preliminary inquiry found that Chaudhary allegedly possessed assets worth about Rs 1.19 crore beyond his known sources of income. Officials said the suspected disproportionate assets amounted to nearly 85 per cent more than his declared income.
FIR Registered After Preliminary Inquiry
The EOU registered a first information report (FIR) on July 29 at the EOU Police Station under Case No. 15/26.
Following the registration of the case, the agency obtained a search warrant from the Special Vigilance Court. Multiple teams led by deputy superintendent of police (DSP)-rank officers began coordinated search operations on Thursday morning.
Raids Conducted at Six Locations
The searches are being carried out at premises associated with Chaudhary in four districts of Bihar. According to the EOU, the locations include:
- A flat at Venus Paradise Apartment in Adampur, Danapur, Patna
- Another premises in Patna
- His in-laws’ residence at Mahamaya Sthan in Muzaffarpur
- The Executive Engineer’s office in Rohtas
- His government residence in Dehri-on-Sone
- His ancestral home in Pipradih village under Rajaun police station in Banka district
Officials Examining Financial Records
EOU officials said teams are scrutinising documents related to movable and immovable properties, bank accounts, investment records, cash, jewellery and other financial documents recovered during the searches.
The seized material will be examined after the search operation concludes to determine whether further legal action is warranted.
Further Action to Depend on Investigation
The EOU said prosecution proceedings will be initiated if the investigation establishes that the accused accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Search operations were continuing at all six locations.
