Patna: The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) Bihar organised an organ donation awareness programme at the College of Nursing, Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS), Patna, on August 1 as part of the Organ Donation: Lifeline Campaign (Angdaan Jeevan Sanjeevani Abhiyan).
The programme aimed to increase public awareness about organ donation and encourage greater participation from healthcare professionals and students.
Nursing Students Encouraged to Promote Awareness
The event began with a welcome address by Principal Dr. Anuja Daniel, who described organ donation as one of the highest forms of humanitarian service. She said nursing students have a vital role in educating communities and encouraging people to consider organ donation.
SOTTO Bihar Chairman Prof. Dr. Manish Mandal called upon doctors, nursing professionals and medical students to actively support the campaign. He said the organisation is working to expand organ transplant facilities within Bihar so that patients can access treatment in the state without travelling elsewhere.
Technical Session Focuses on Process and Legal Framework
During the technical session, Ekta, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Consultant at SOTTO Bihar, delivered a presentation explaining the organ donation process, legal provisions and public awareness strategies.
She addressed questions from students and explained brain stem death, living and deceased organ donation, and common misconceptions associated with organ donation. She also outlined the procedure for pledging organs and said a single organ donor has the potential to save multiple lives.
Transplant Coordinator Explains Donation System
Transplant Coordinator Jaspal Singh conducted an interactive question-and-answer session on the organ donation process and the transplantation system. Students raised queries on various aspects of donation and transplantation, which were addressed during the discussion.
Strong Participation From Students and Faculty
The programme was attended by faculty members and a large number of first-year nursing students, who participated actively throughout the sessions.
Concluding the event, SOTTO Bihar thanked the participants for their involvement and reiterated the need for sustained public awareness efforts to promote organ donation across the state.
