Patna: Former Bihar minister Manju Verma and her husband, Chandrashekhar Verma, were sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment on Saturday after a special MP-MLA court convicted them in an illegal arms possession case registered in Begusarai in 2018.
The verdict was delivered by the court of Special Judge Brij Kumar, who found both accused guilty under the provisions of the Arms Act after hearing evidence and arguments presented by the prosecution and the defence.
Conviction In 2018 Arms Case
The case originated from Cheria Bariarpur police station in Begusarai district, where an FIR was registered in 2018 alleging illegal possession of firearms.
Following a lengthy investigation and trial, the special court pronounced its judgment on Saturday, convicting both Manju Verma and Chandrashekhar Verma.
Taken Into Custody After Verdict
Police took the couple into custody immediately after the sentence was announced in court.
After completing the required legal formalities, authorities initiated the process of sending them to jail to serve their sentence.
Prosecution Details
Public Prosecutor Santosh Kumar said the case had remained under trial since it was registered in 2018.
He stated that, after considering the evidence presented during the proceedings, the court found the former minister and her husband guilty and imposed a seven-year prison term under the Arms Act.
