Patna: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna on Saturday inaugurated its Orientation and Induction Programme 2026 for newly admitted undergraduate students, welcoming nearly 800 freshers to the institute for the 2026–27 academic session.
The three-day programme began in the institute’s main auditorium with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Kumar Ravi, Health Secretary to the Government of Bihar, attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest. He was welcomed by Prof. T.N. Singh, Director of IIT Patna, with a shawl and a memento.
‘Success Is Never Achieved Alone’
Addressing students and their parents, Prof. Singh said IIT Patna was committed not only to academic excellence but also to the holistic development of its students.
Emphasising the importance of collaboration and gratitude, he said success is built on the support of others.
“You cannot succeed alone. Success depends on the support from other sides and surroundings. They have some contributions to your success, so you must respect them. A mountain peak is not going to be stable if its sides are not strong,” he said.
Prepare For The Next Two Decades, Students Told
In his address, Kumar Ravi shared experiences from his student days at IIT Kanpur and his subsequent professional career.
He said the IIT ecosystem provides students with opportunities for multidimensional development and encouraged them to prepare for careers with a long-term perspective.
According to Ravi, students should assess how their chosen fields are likely to evolve over the next two decades and develop the skills required to thrive in a rapidly changing professional landscape.
Nearly 800 Students Join 32 Undergraduate Programmes
Dr Sushant Kumar, Associate Dean (Academics–UG), said nearly 800 students who qualified JEE (Advanced) 2026 had been admitted to 32 undergraduate programmes for the 2026–27 academic session.
The programmes include:
- 12 BTech/BS programmes
- 12 integrated BTech–MTech programmes
- Eight integrated BTech/BS–MBA programmes
Students were also addressed by Dr Subrata Hait, Associate Dean (Academics–PG); Prof. Jimson Mathew, Dean (Student Affairs); Dr Kuldeep Patel, Professor-in-Charge (Registration); and Prof. A.K. Thakur, Dean Administration-cum-Registrar, who introduced them to the institute’s academic structure, administrative procedures and student support systems.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Vijay Kumar, Deputy Registrar (Academics). Santosh Kumar, Assistant Registrar (Academics), was also present.
Campus Life And Student Support
Later in the day, students attended sessions introducing them to the institute’s placement and career development services, Central Library, campus security, healthcare facilities, the National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), and the institute’s cultural and technical clubs.
The orientation programme will continue with department-specific sessions on Sunday before regular classes begin on August 4.
According to IIT Patna, the programme is designed to familiarise new students with the institute’s academic culture, research ecosystem and campus life, helping them begin their engineering education with confidence.
