Patna: Fresh from becoming the first MLA of the Jan Suraaj Party, Prashant Kishor is set to launch a ward-by-ward public outreach programme in the Bankipur Assembly constituency, promising to engage directly with residents and address local issues.
The Jan Suraaj Party announced on Wednesday that Kishor will visit wards across the constituency from August 11 to August 19, holding public interactions to understand residents’ concerns and discuss development priorities.
The outreach comes days after Kishor defeated the BJP’s Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes in the Bankipur Assembly by-election, ending the BJP’s long hold over the constituency.
Ward-Wise Tour From August 11
According to the party, Kishor’s programme will cover all parts of the constituency over nine days.
His schedule is as follows:
- August 11: Wards 15, 18 and 40
- August 12: Wards 19, 22, 23 and 26
- August 13: Wards 29, 16 and 30
- August 14: Wards 17, 38 and 25
- August 16: Wards 30, 24 and 27
- August 17: Wards 28, 31, 35 and 21
- August 18: Wards 37, 42 and 36
- August 19: Ward 41
The party said the meetings will focus on local civic issues, constituency development and future action plans.
First MLA For Jan Suraaj
The Bankipur by-election marked a political milestone for Kishor and his party.
Although Jan Suraaj contested 238 seats in the previous Bihar Assembly election, it failed to win a single constituency. The Bankipur result has now given the party its first representation in the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
The victory was widely seen as significant because Bankipur had long been regarded as a BJP stronghold, having been represented for five consecutive terms by Nitin Navin before he vacated the seat following his election to the Rajya Sabha.
‘Visible Changes’ Within Three Months
Following his victory, Kishor said his immediate priority would be to improve conditions in Bankipur rather than make grand promises.
He has claimed that residents will begin to see visible changes within the next three months, with the longer-term objective of transforming Bankipur into a model Assembly constituency over the next one to two years.
Kishor has said he hopes the constituency can become an example of what an elected representative can achieve, setting a benchmark for legislators across Bihar.
