Patna: The Waste to Wonder Park being developed along the Ganga in Patna is nearing completion, with around 90% of construction work finished, according to officials.
Spread over nearly 10 acres near the memorial of former President Dr Rajendra Prasad at Bans Ghat, the park will showcase Bihar’s history, culture and heritage through artworks created from discarded materials.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of October, while December 3, Dr Rajendra Prasad’s birth anniversary, is being considered as a possible date for opening the park to the public.
38 Artworks To Be Installed
The park’s central attraction will be 38 artworks made using materials such as iron scrap, old tyres, broken pipes, bottles, electronic waste and other discarded metal items.
According to the project plan, these include statues of 14 prominent personalities from Bihar, replicas of 13 historical monuments, representations of seven major animals and birds, and four traditional art forms.
Bihar’s Heritage In One Complex
Several important historical sites associated with Bihar will be represented through replicas within the park.
These include the ruins of Nalanda University, Mahabodhi Temple, Sher Shah Suri’s Tomb, Vikramshila University, Mundeshwari Temple and the Ashoka Pillar of Vaishali.
The park will also feature representations of Bihar’s traditional Madhubani, Manjusha, Tikuli and Sujani art forms, giving visitors an opportunity to see different aspects of the state’s cultural heritage in one location.
Rs 14.98 Crore Project
The park is being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 14.98 crore under the supervision of the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUDCO).
The planned facilities include walking paths, seating areas, a food court, drinking water facilities, toilets and landscaped green spaces.
Solar power will also form part of the park’s energy system. Officials said solar panels are planned to meet around 45% of the park’s electricity requirements, including decorative lighting.
Construction In Final Phase
Officials said around 90% of the overall construction has been completed. Work on pathways, horticulture and electrical installations is approximately 50% complete.
Some work has been affected temporarily by the rise in water levels in the Ganga canal. Officials said construction activity can be accelerated once water levels recede.
What Officials Said
BUDCO Managing Director Animesh Kumar Parashar said the project near the Dr Rajendra Prasad memorial had entered its final phase.
According to Parashar, the target is to complete the entire park by the end of October.
Located between JP Ganga Path to the north and Ashok Rajpath to the south, the park is expected to add a new public attraction to Patna’s riverfront landscape while presenting Bihar’s heritage through recycled materials.
