Patna: The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) arrested two youths and seized 200 Nitrazepam tablets, around 2 grams of cannabis and other items during a patrol along the India-Nepal border in East Champaran, officials said.
The arrests were made in the Kundwa Chainpur police station area by personnel from the Kundwa Chainpur company of the 20th Battalion SSB, Sitamarhi.
Two Arrested During Patrol
According to the SSB, its personnel were conducting a special vehicle patrol when they noticed the movements of two youths near Hirapur village.
The personnel stopped the two men and searched them. The search led to the recovery of 200 tablets of Nitrazepam I.P. (Nitzascen-10), around 2 grams of cannabis, a mobile phone and two motorcycles.
The seized narcotic substances were taken into custody and the two men were arrested.
Suspected Drug Couriers
The arrested men were identified as Saddam Mansoori, 21, and Abdul Barik, 25.
The SSB said the two were allegedly preparing to cross from India into Nepal. Preliminary investigation indicates that they may have been acting as couriers for the narcotics.
Further Investigation
The SSB has initiated further legal proceedings against the two accused. Police and other security agencies are investigating the source of the narcotics and the intended recipients in Nepal.
The force said it continues to conduct regular surveillance and patrols along the border to prevent the smuggling of narcotic substances and other contraband.
