Bhagalpur/Patna: A major bridge project linking Bihpur in Bhagalpur with Phulaut in Madhepura has reached its final stage, with physical work on the 28.918-km project reported to be 98.7% complete.
The bridge and its approach roads are expected to be opened to the public by February 2027, according to the Road Construction Department.
Pankaj Kumar Pal, secretary of the Road Construction Department, said all 128 spans of the mega-bridge have been installed. Work is now focused on installing expansion joints and completing final finishing works.
The project is being constructed under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Rs 1,478 Crore Project To Connect NH-31 And NH-106
The project is being built at a cost of Rs 1,478.40 crore and will connect NH-31 at Bihpur with NH-106 at Phulaut-Uda-Kishanganj.
Once completed, the bridge and approach roads are expected to significantly reduce travel distances between Phulaut and Bihpur as well as Saharsa.
The improved connection is also expected to make the movement of agricultural produce and goods easier, while improving access to emergency services and facilitating daily travel for residents of the region.
Expected Boost For Regional Economy
The Road Construction Department has described the project as an important infrastructure link for the region.
Improved connectivity could support regional trade and make it easier for agricultural producers to transport their goods to markets. Faster road access is also expected to benefit the movement of people and emergency services.
With the bridge structure now substantially complete, the remaining work is focused on finishing the infrastructure required before the route can be opened to traffic.
If the current schedule is maintained, commuters could begin using the Bhagalpur-Madhepura connection by February 2027, marking the completion of one of the region’s major road infrastructure projects.
