Patna: Netaji Subhas Medical College and Hospital (NSMCH), Amhara, Bihta, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Incubation Centre at IIT Patna to promote biomedical research and the development of healthcare technologies.

The agreement was signed by Dr Swarnima Singh, member secretary of the Clinical Research Ethics Committee (CREC) at NSMCH, and Prof P K Tiwari of IIT Patna.

The collaboration will bring doctors, researchers, engineers, startups and innovators together to develop and evaluate new healthcare solutions.

Focus on medical technology

The partnership will focus on areas including biomedical devices, diagnostic and testing technologies, healthcare software and digital health solutions.

The collaboration is also intended to help innovators better understand the practical needs of hospitals and patients, enabling the development of technologies based on clinical requirements.

Where research involves human participants or patient-related information, the studies will undergo appropriate scientific and ethical review in accordance with applicable guidelines.

The process will include safeguards relating to informed consent and patient confidentiality.

Role of NSMCH ethics committee

A key component of the partnership is NSMCH’s Clinical Research Ethics Committee.

According to the institution, its CREC has permanent registration with the National Ethics Committee Registry for Biomedical and Health Research (NECRBHR) under the Department of Health Research, Government of India.

The committee will play a role in ensuring that research involving human participants is reviewed in accordance with applicable ethical and regulatory requirements.

Linking clinical needs with technology

The MoU is intended to create a framework that combines medical expertise, technological innovation and ethical research.

The partnership could help develop healthcare technologies that are more closely aligned with the needs of patients and healthcare institutions.

NSMCH, located in Amhara, Bihta, Patna, said it has been undertaking initiatives in healthcare, medical education, research and innovation as part of its efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
