Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has released the notification for the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026, with the application process scheduled to begin on August 17.
Candidates will be able to submit their applications until August 31 through the designated online portal. BSEB said the date of the STET 2026 examination will be announced separately.
No Negative Marking, Lifetime-Valid Certificate
The Bihar STET 2026 examination will have no negative marking, according to the notification.
Candidates who qualify the examination will receive a lifetime-valid STET certificate. The qualification will also make candidates eligible to participate in upcoming Bihar teacher recruitment examinations, subject to the applicable recruitment rules.
Who Can Apply for Bihar STET 2026?
Candidates applying for STET 2026 must have a graduation degree from a recognised institution along with a B.Ed degree in the relevant subject, according to the eligibility criteria.
The prescribed age limit varies according to gender and category.
- Unreserved male: Maximum 37 years
- Unreserved female: Maximum 40 years
- Backward Class/EBC male and female: Maximum 40 years
- SC male and female: Maximum 42 years
- ST male and female: Maximum 42 years
Candidates should check the detailed notification for any additional eligibility conditions applicable to their subject and category.
Bihar STET 2026 Application Fee
The application fee will depend on the candidate’s category and whether they are applying for one or both papers.
For one paper, the fee is:
- General/EWS/BC/EBC: Rs 960
- SC/ST/PwD: Rs 760
For both papers, the fee is:
- General/EWS/BC/EBC: Rs 1,440
- SC/ST/PwD: Rs 1,140
The examination fee has to be paid through the online mode.
How to Apply for Bihar STET 2026
Candidates will be able to apply online through the BSEB-designated STET registration portal.
The application process will begin on August 17 and continue until August 31. Candidates should enter their personal, educational and category details carefully and upload the required documents before submitting the form.
Applicants should also retain a copy of the completed application form and fee payment receipt for future reference.
Bihar STET 2026 Exam Pattern
The STET 2026 examination will consist of 150 questions and will have a total duration of two and a half hours.
Of the 150 questions, 100 will be subject-specific, while the remaining 50 questions will cover teaching art and other related competencies, according to the notification.
The examination will be conducted in two papers:
- Paper 1: For secondary-level teaching
- Paper 2: For higher secondary-level teaching
Paper 1 will offer 16 subjects, while Paper 2 will cover 29 subjects.

The Paper 1 subjects are:
Hindi, Social Science, Sanskrit, Urdu, Bengali, Maithili, Arabic, Persian, Bhojpuri, English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, Music, Fine Arts and Dance.
Subjects in Paper 2
Paper 2 will include Hindi, Urdu, English, Sanskrit, Magahi, Arabic, Persian, Bengali, Maithili, Bhojpuri, Pali, Prakrit, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy, Psychology, Home Science, Botany, Commerce, Computer Science, Agriculture and Music.
When Will the STET 2026 Exam Be Held?
BSEB has not yet announced the examination date.
The immediate schedule is the opening of the online application window on August 17, followed by the last date for applications on August 31. The board will announce the examination date separately.
Candidates preparing for Bihar teacher recruitment should also note that STET qualification will be relevant for future recruitment opportunities, subject to the eligibility conditions prescribed by the recruiting authority.
