Patna University’s Rs 370 Crore Modernization Plan to Boost National Rankings
Patna: In a significant push to modernize and expand its infrastructure, Patna University is undergoing extensive redevelopment with 11 projects currently in the works. The ambitious plan, backed by over Rs 370 crore in funds from the state government and the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), aims to revamp the university’s facilities and improve its national ranking.
Several projects, including the renovation of the Wheeler Senate Hall and the construction of an International Hostel, have already been completed, while many others are either ongoing or set to begin soon.
The university is currently focusing on key infrastructure projects, including the construction of new buildings for administrative offices, the arts faculty, and examination facilities. Additionally, new developments are planned for the Science Block Academic Building, two girls’ hostels, and a Population Research Center. The Vice-Chancellor of Patna University, Prof. Ajay Kumar Singh, has instructed all teams to expedite their work, especially with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) review approaching.
“Instructions have been given to work at a fast pace in view of the upcoming NAAC evaluation,” said Prof. Singh. Most of these projects are funded by the state government, while others are being financed through RUSA.
Work on the Administrative Building and Arts Block is progressing swiftly, with efforts to finish them before the NAAC review. The Examination Hall at Patna College is also under construction. The National Dolphin Research Centre, although structurally ready, still requires the installation of essential equipment. A similar situation exists with the Advanced Research Centre, where Rs 2.38 crore from RUSA funds has been allocated for equipment installation, and tenders for the same are expected to be issued soon.
Prof. Birendra Prasad, Director of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at Patna University, stated that major projects are moving quickly, and work on the two girls’ hostels and the Science Block will commence soon. “We are hopeful that most of these projects will be completed shortly,” he said.
The International Hostel has also been completed as part of the university’s modernization efforts. However, a much larger project, costing Rs 713 crore for the redevelopment of the South Campus, remains pending approval from the state government. Should this proposal be sanctioned, it would push the total worth of projects at Patna University to over Rs 1,000 crore.
With NAAC accreditation and national rankings looming, university officials are under pressure to accelerate work on all ongoing and proposed projects. Timely completion will not only enhance the academic environment but also boost Patna University’s standing in national rankings next year.
