Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary met Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in New Delhi on Friday, August 21, to discuss a range of issues related to Bihar’s development and financial requirements.
The meeting was attended by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and JD(U) National Working President Sanjay Jha.
According to Samrat Choudhary, the discussions covered India-Nepal water and dam projects, budget-related matters, tourism development and other issues concerning Bihar’s interests.
Bihar’s financial requirements take centre stage
Sharing photographs of the meeting on X, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said the discussions were significant for strongly presenting Bihar’s development, prosperity and public-interest priorities before the Centre.

The meeting comes as Bihar seeks greater financial support for several development programmes and infrastructure projects. The state government is also looking for increased funding under various central and jointly funded schemes.
India-Nepal water and dam projects discussed
Water and dam projects involving India and Nepal were among the issues discussed during the meeting.
The subject is particularly significant for Bihar, given the state’s geographical proximity to Nepal and its dependence on several river systems originating across the border. Water management, flood control and related infrastructure remain important development concerns for the state.
Kosi-Mechi project and infrastructure funding
The Kosi-Mechi River Interlinking Project is among the major projects for which Bihar has financial expectations from the Centre.
The state is also pursuing several large-scale road and expressway projects that require substantial financial investment. Reports suggest that the Chief Minister may have sought the early release of additional funds for such projects, although this specific request has not been officially confirmed.
Tourism development also on agenda
Tourism development was another key issue discussed during the meeting.
Bihar has significant historical, religious and cultural tourism potential, and increased investment in infrastructure and connectivity could help attract more visitors while generating employment and boosting local economies.
Samrat Choudhary meets Vinod Tawde
During his Delhi visit, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also met BJP leader Vinod Tawde at his residence.
Choudhary congratulated Tawde on his reappointment as the BJP’s National General Secretary and his appointment as the party’s Uttar Pradesh in-charge.
In a social media post, Choudhary praised Tawde’s organisational leadership and expressed confidence that he would take the party to new heights.
