Patna: The Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) has received the prestigious ‘Skill Excellence Award 2026 for Power Sector’ for its efforts in induction skilling and workforce development.
The award was presented on Friday, August 21, in New Delhi during the Industry Consultation Workshop of the Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC) under the VOLT (Vocational Occupational Learning & Training) programme.
1,900 technicians trained under induction initiative
BSPHCL was recognised for its structured induction skilling initiative under which 1,900 newly recruited technicians received comprehensive training to prepare them for their professional responsibilities in the power sector.
The initiative was selected for national recognition by a jury comprising senior officials and experts from the power sector. It was acknowledged for establishing a standardised approach to technical training and onboarding.

Representing BSPHCL, Training Coordinator-cum-Consultant Ashok Kumar received the award.
The honour was presented by Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and President of the Power Sector Skill Council (PSSC), in the presence of senior power-sector officials and experts.
Training focused on skills, safety and modern technology
BSPHCL said its induction programme focuses on preparing technical personnel for the practical and professional requirements of the electricity sector.
The company has undertaken several training initiatives in recent years, covering induction training, technical training, capacity building, skill enhancement and workplace-based learning.
With technology and operational requirements in the power sector evolving rapidly, BSPHCL is also focusing on training employees in new technologies, safety standards, operational procedures and modern power systems.
Energy Secretary highlights importance of skilled workforce
Ajay Yadav (IAS), Energy Secretary-cum-Chairman-cum-Managing Director, BSPHCL, described the award as a significant achievement for the organisation.
He said the induction skilling of 1,900 technicians was an important step towards building a skilled, safe and responsible technical workforce, adding that skill development would remain a priority and BSPHCL’s training systems would be further strengthened.
The award is expected to reinforce BSPHCL’s focus on developing a competent, safety-conscious and future-ready workforce capable of meeting the changing requirements of Bihar’s power sector.
