Patna: Bihar is set for an active spell of monsoon weather over the next four to five days, with heavy rain expected across several parts of the state from Saturday.
The India Meteorological Department on Friday issued a heavy rainfall warning for the Champaran and Seemanchal regions, while districts including Kaimur, Rohtas and Siwan are expected to receive heavy rain on Sunday. Patna could also see heavy downpours in the coming days.
The forecast comes after a largely dry 24 hours across Bihar. The monsoon remained weak on Friday, with rainfall recorded only at a few isolated locations, contributing to a rise in temperatures and uncomfortable, humid conditions.
According to the latest forecast from the Patna meteorological centre, monsoon activity is expected to strengthen within the next 24 hours. An orange alert has been issued for 10 districts and a yellow alert for 18 districts for 22 August.
Saturday is expected to bring thunderstorms and rain to several districts, including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, East Champaran and Araria.
Heavy rain warning for four districts
The department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for East Champaran, including Motihari, West Champaran, including Bettiah, as well as Araria and Kishanganj.
An orange alert for thunderstorms and lightning has been issued for Gopalganj, Chhapra, Siwan, Ara, Buxar, Kaimur and Rohtas.
A yellow alert covers Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Begusarai, Darbhanga and Sitamarhi, among other districts, where thunderstorms and adverse weather conditions are expected.
The department has urged people to remain cautious during thunderstorms and lightning and to follow official weather advisories.

The wet spell is expected to continue for at least four days. On August 23, heavy rain is forecast in Kaimur, Rohtas, Buxar, Gopalganj and Siwan. On August 24, heavy rainfall is expected in Samastipur, Supaul, Vaishali, Begusarai, Khagaria, Lakhisarai and Nalanda.
The spell is forecast to continue into August 25, when heavy rain is expected in Gopalganj and the Champaran region.
Temperatures rise as rain stays away
The weak monsoon activity on August 21 was accompanied by a rise in daytime temperatures in several parts of Bihar.
In Patna, the maximum temperature increased by 0.5C to 35.5C on Friday. Kaimur recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 36.3C.
Temperatures also rose in Gaya, Nalanda, Chhapra, Siwan, Motihari, Samastipur, Vaishali and Araria.
The lack of rainfall has left much of the state facing sultry, humid conditions. The expected revival of monsoon activity over the coming days is likely to bring some relief, while also increasing the risk of intense rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in affected districts.
