Patna: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Patna, marked National Handloom Day 2026 on Friday with a programme at its Mithapur Farms campus focused on India’s handloom heritage and traditional weaving practices.
Prof. (Dr.) Sharad Kumar Yadav, vice-chancellor of Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna, attended the event as chief guest, while Prof. (Dr.) Ratna Amrit, principal of A.N. College, Patna, was the guest of honour.
The programme began with the National Song and National Anthem, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana. It included a presentation on National Handloom Day and a folk-song performance by the NIFT Patna Cultural Club.

Col. (Retd.) Rahul Sharma, director of NIFT Patna, addressed the gathering along with Yadav and Amrit.
A heritage walk at the NIFT Patna campus was a key part of the programme, giving students and participants an opportunity to explore aspects of India’s diverse cultural heritage.
Addressing the gathering, Col. Sharma stressed the importance of understanding India’s cultural legacy and encouraging younger generations to remain connected with traditional crafts and heritage. He also highlighted the continuing relevance of traditional knowledge and handloom practices.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by the joint director of NIFT Patna.
