Patna: The monsoon remains active over Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing rain alerts for 28 districts on Saturday. An orange alert for heavy rainfall has been issued in 10 districts, while 18 districts are under a yellow alert for light rainfall.

According to the weather department, strong winds may accompany rainfall in the districts under the orange alert, while winds of up to 30 kmph are possible in areas under the yellow alert. There is also a possibility of lightning at isolated places.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall across several parts of Bihar over the next seven days. Rain is also likely in parts of Patna and other areas of south-central Bihar.

Ganga water level rises in Patna

Meanwhile, the water level of the Ganga has been rising in Patna following increased rainfall in Uttarakhand and other parts of the river basin.

According to data from the past 24 hours, the Ganga at Gandhi Ghat in Patna is flowing around 20 cm above the danger mark. The danger level at Gandhi Ghat is 48.60 metres, while it is 50.45 metres at Digha.

The rising water level is also causing difficulties in parts of the state. In Munger Ghat in Begusarai, the rapidly rising Ganga water level has reportedly created problems for people carrying out last rites.

Active monsoon likely to bring more rain

Weather experts said monsoon activity is expected to remain active over Bihar, increasing the possibility of rainfall over the next few days.

While some areas may receive intense rainfall over a short period, several other parts of the state are likely to experience light to moderate showers. The rainfall may also bring down maximum temperatures by around 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Patna weather forecast

Patna is likely to experience changeable weather over the next few days, with light to moderate rainfall expected. The city’s maximum temperature was recorded at 35.5 degrees Celsius during the past 24 hours.

A slight decline in temperatures is expected as rainfall activity continues.

Rohtas records highest rainfall

During the past 24 hours, Rohtas recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 41 mm. It was followed by Kishanganj with 26 mm, Araria with 18 mm, Gopalganj with 13 mm and Samastipur with 6.2 mm.

Despite the ongoing rainfall, Bihar continues to face a significant rainfall deficit. The state has so far recorded 41% less rainfall than normal for the corresponding period.

Against the expected 690.9 mm of rainfall, Bihar has received only 410.7 mm so far, according to the available rainfall data.

Proofread and editorial checks

  • Corrected grammar, sentence flow and repetition.
  • Changed conversational phrases into standard digital-news language.
  • Retained the distinction between orange alert (heavy rain) and yellow alert (light rain).
  • Clarified the Ganga danger-level figures and avoided suggesting that the Digha level is also currently above the danger mark.
  • Kept rainfall figures and the 41% deficit exactly as provided.
  • Used an inverted-pyramid structure, with the statewide weather alert and Ganga water level developments placed prominently.
