Patna: The Ganga continued to flow above the danger mark at several locations in Patna district on Sunday, with the Central Water Commission (CWC) forecasting a further rise in water levels.
At 6am on Sunday, the river at Gandhi Ghat was flowing at 49.54 metres, 94cm above the danger mark of 48.60 metres. The CWC has forecast a further rise of 6cm by 8am on Monday.
Water Level At Digha Ghat
At Digha Ghat, the Ganga was flowing at 50.63 metres at 6am on Sunday, 18cm above the danger mark of 50.45 metres.
The CWC has forecast a rise of 13cm at the site by 8am on Monday.
Ganga Rising At Hathidah
The river was also above the danger mark at Hathidah. The water level stood at 42.37 metres at 6am on Sunday, 61cm above the danger mark of 41.76 metres.
The CWC has projected a further rise of 14cm at Hathidah by 8am on Monday.
Water Level Rose By Up To 20cm In A Day
CWC data showed a sharp rise in water levels between Saturday and Sunday.
At Gandhi Ghat, the water level increased from 49.35 metres on Saturday to 49.54 metres on Sunday, a rise of 19cm.
At Digha Ghat, the level rose from 50.43 metres to 50.63 metres, an increase of 20cm.
At Hathidah, the water level increased from 42.22 metres to 42.37 metres, a rise of 15cm.
Highest Recorded Water Levels
Historical records show that the Ganga has reached significantly higher levels at the three monitoring points.
The highest recorded level at Digha was 52.52 metres in 1975. Gandhi Ghat recorded its highest level of 50.52 metres in 2016, while Hathidah recorded 43.52 metres in 2021.
