Patna: The Bihar government is accelerating efforts to develop modern sports infrastructure at the block level, with Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh reviewing a detailed proposal for the construction of sports facilities across the state on August 24, 2026.
A detailed presentation on the proposed sports infrastructure was made by the State Building Construction Corporation Limited under the chairmanship of the Sports Minister.
Shooting Ranges, Swimming Pools and Gyms Proposed
During the presentation, officials briefed the minister about the sports facilities and amenities planned for the proposed stadiums and sports complexes.
The plans include shooting ranges, swimming pools, fitness centres and gyms, multi-purpose sports grounds and other modern facilities aimed at supporting athletes during training and practice.
Focus on Sports Beyond Cricket
Speaking during the meeting, Shreyasi Singh noted that significant work has already been undertaken to promote cricket in Bihar. She emphasised the need to provide similar opportunities and quality infrastructure for athletes involved in other sporting disciplines.
The minister directed officials to ensure that block-level sports complexes are designed in a way that athletes can access essential training and practice facilities at a single location.
Minister Stresses Safe and Athlete-Friendly Facilities
Following the presentation, Shreyasi Singh offered suggestions to make the proposed infrastructure more functional, safe and child-friendly.
She particularly stressed the effective integration of facilities such as fitness centres, shooting ranges and swimming pools, while ensuring that the overall design prioritises the convenience and requirements of athletes.
Officials Review Sports Infrastructure Development Plan
The meeting was attended by Deepak Anand, Secretary, Department of Sports; Ravindran Sankaran, Director General, Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA); Arif Ahsan, Director, Department of Sports; and other officials from the department and concerned agencies.
The proposed block-level infrastructure is aimed at strengthening Bihar’s grassroots sports ecosystem and creating better training opportunities for athletes across the state.
