Patna: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Monday conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected and vulnerable areas in Bihar amid rising water levels in the Ganga and its tributaries.
The survey came after the Bengal government, at the Bihar government’s request, opened all the gates of the Farakka Barrage, according to the state government. The move is expected to ease water pressure in several areas along the Ganga in Bihar.
Survey Of Flood-Affected Areas
Choudhary inspected Naugachia, Raghopur Diyara, the Kosi-Ganga confluence area, Begusarai and Bakhtiyarpur during the aerial survey.
He reviewed water levels in the Ganga and its tributaries, the situation in riverine and low-lying areas, and the status of relief and rescue operations.
The chief minister directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas and keep the administration on high alert.
He also instructed officials to ensure timely delivery of food, drinking water, relief materials and other essential supplies to people affected by the floods.
Review Meeting In Bhagalpur
After the aerial survey, Choudhary held a review meeting with senior officials at Bhagalpur Airport.
Officials informed him that pressure from the water flow was rapidly subsiding and that the situation was expected to improve soon.
The chief minister said the safety of flood-affected people remained the state government’s top priority. He directed officials to keep all arrangements ready for evacuating people to safer locations if the situation required it.
Instructions On Relief And Rescue
Choudhary ordered immediate repair work in vulnerable areas and directed officials to maintain continuous surveillance of the flood situation.
He also asked the administration to ensure that affected people receive assistance in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Officials were instructed to carry out relief and rescue operations with due diligence and ensure that there are no gaps in the response.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Energy Minister Shailesh Kumar, also known as Bulo Mandal, accompanied the chief minister during the aerial survey.
