Patna: The Department of Physiology, AIIMS Patna under the patronage and direct supervision of Executive Director, Dr. Gopal Krushna Pal conducted 10th Annual Conference of Association of Physiologists of India (ASSOPI) and 10th Congress of Federation of Indian Physiological Society (FIPS), organized from 21st – 26th October, 2024. The conference was attended by more than 500 delegates from across the country and abroad.
The much-anticipated FIPS ASSOPICON 2024 commenced on 21st October, bringing together the leading minds in the field of Physiology from across India and abroad. Spanning six days, this prestigious event features workshops, poster and oral presentations, and discussions on cutting-edge developments in physiological research and their scope in clinical practice for the Indian population.
For the first three days (21st – 23rd October), participants engaged in a series of parallel workshops. These sessions covered a wide range of topics, including:
- Interventional Physiology: Deep Brain stimulation & Vagal Nerve Stimulation & Biofeedback
- Clinical EEG: Recording and Interpretation
- Classic (Conventional) Autonomic Function Testing & HRV
- Electroneuromyography: Assessment and Reporting
- Intraoperative Neuromonitoring
- Yoga as Therapeutic Modality
- Cardiovascular Fitness Assessment
- Polysomnography: Recording and interpretation
- Male infertility: Assessment and Reporting
- Role of Animal Experimentation in Research
- How to Publish Research Article in PubMed Indexed Journal
- Proposal Writing for Grant Project (Extramural Funding)
These workshops attracted numerous delegates from various regions, fostering a collaborative environment where experts exchanged knowledge and explored emerging techniques. The active participation of the delegates in the hands-on sessions and the engagement of leading professionals highlighted the relevance and applicability of these topics in modern clinical practice.
From 24th October, 2024, the power packed conference unfolded further with the central theme of “Clinical and Interventional Physiology: Current and Future Scopes in the Indian Scenario.” The conference promises insightful discussions on the integration of physiological science into clinical settings and future avenues for research and innovation.
The first day of the conference featured Keynote Addresses delivered by Dr. Sanjay Behari, Director, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum. Followed by Dr. Rajesh Katare, Director, Cardiovascular Division, University of Otago, School of Biomedical Sciences, New Zealand shared his expertise on the Role of micro-RNA in Health and Disease. Coming up are many more exciting Plenary Sessions, Symposia, and Presentations from renowned experts in the field, providing a platform for Physiologists, Clinicians, and Researchers to connect, share their findings, and explore potential collaborations.
In the inaugural address, Director, Dr. G. K. Pal informed that Physiology is now a subject of hospital oriented patient-centric clinical subject. At AIIMS Patna, deep brain stimulation will be initiated soon by the Department of Neurosurgery in collaboration with Division of Clinical and Interventional Physiology, which will be highly beneficial in chronic and intractable diseases like Parkinsonism, Alzheimer’s disease, resistant epilepsy, etc. We look forward to continue fruitful discussions over the remaining days, as we collectively work toward advancing physiological research and its clinical applications for the benefit of patients and healthcare systems.
