Patna: The southwest monsoon has started weakening over Bihar, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rain in 11 districts on Saturday. However, no weather alert has been issued for these districts, and residents are unlikely to get much relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
The districts likely to receive rain include Siwan, Saran, Gopalganj, Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Patna, Vaishali and West Champaran.
The weather department has forecast partly cloudy skies and light rain at several places, but high humidity is expected to persist. Some districts are likely to see a rainfall alert on August 30.
Patna weather forecast
Patna experienced hot and humid conditions over the past 24 hours, with cloudy skies and light rain reported late at night. Despite the rainfall, residents continued to experience discomfort due to high humidity.
For Saturday, Patna is likely to remain partly cloudy, with a possibility of rain. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 33°C, while the minimum temperature could be around 28°C.
On August 30, weather conditions in Patna are not expected to change significantly. Cloudy skies and light rain are likely in several districts, including Patna, Siwan, Saran, Gopalganj, West Champaran, East Champaran, Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur and Rohtas.
On August 31, cloudy conditions are likely to continue across Patna and several other parts of the state. Patna may receive heavier rain, with the maximum temperature expected to be around 31°C.
Heavy rain reported in some districts
While rainfall activity has weakened in several parts of Bihar, some districts received significant rain during the past 24 hours. Muzaffarpur, Madhepura and Purnia recorded heavy showers.
Madhepura, in particular, witnessed intense rainfall on Friday afternoon.
Bihar rainfall deficit at 42%
Bihar has recorded significantly below-normal rainfall during the current monsoon season. Against the normal cumulative rainfall of 756.5 mm, the state has received around 438.6 mm so far.
This represents a deficit of 317.9 mm, or nearly 42% below normal.
Why are cloudy skies accompanied by humidity?
Weather experts attribute the persistent cloudy conditions and humidity to high moisture levels in the atmosphere. Monsoon activity is also contributing to cloud formation in the upper levels of the atmosphere.
As a result, clouds are developing and moving over several areas, but they are not producing sufficient rainfall everywhere. This leads to a rise in humidity both before and after rainfall, causing continued discomfort despite intermittent showers.
