Patna: Nalanda Open University (NOU) has added five new courses for the 2026-27 academic session after receiving recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Distance Education Bureau (DEB). With the new additions, the university now offers admission across 51 programmes.
The newly approved courses include BA Hindi, BA Home Science, BSc Home Science, MA Disaster Management and MSc Disaster Management. The university has already opened its admission process for the new academic session, with applications accepted until September 21, 2026.
Five New Courses Added
The new programmes cover both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
At the undergraduate level, students can now apply for BA Hindi, BA Home Science and BSc Home Science. At the postgraduate level, the university has introduced MA Disaster Management and MSc Disaster Management.
According to the university administration, Disaster Management has been among the subjects for which students have been seeking programmes. The introduction of the courses is expected to provide opportunities for higher education and specialised study in the field.
51 Programmes Now Available
Before the latest expansion, Nalanda Open University offered 46 programmes across several disciplines. These included courses in arts, science, commerce, education, library science, computer applications, journalism and mass communication, environmental science and languages.
The existing portfolio includes programmes such as BEd, MEd, BLIS, MLIS, BCA, MCA and MJMC, along with certificate and diploma courses.
The addition of five new programmes has increased the university’s overall programme count to 51.
Admissions Open Until September 21
The university has activated its admission portal for all 51 programmes for the 2026-27 session.
Students can submit applications through the university’s official website until September 21, 2026. The university has also made guidance available through its study centres for students, particularly those from rural and distant areas.
The administration has advised prospective students to complete the application process before the deadline.
New Opportunities In Disaster Management
The addition of postgraduate programmes in Disaster Management gives students an opportunity to pursue specialised higher education in an area relevant to disaster preparedness, response and management.
