Patna: The Patna Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory after heavy rain caused severe waterlogging on several roads in the city, particularly the route from Patel Golambar to Patna airport.

Several feet of water has accumulated on parts of the road, raising the possibility of traffic congestion and delays. The advisory comes as the Ganga continues to rise in Patna, adding to concerns in low-lying areas.

Airport-bound passengers have been advised to leave home well in advance to allow for possible delays caused by waterlogging and traffic congestion.

Motorists travelling through affected stretches have also been asked to reduce their speed and exercise caution. Traffic personnel deployed along the route have urged commuters to follow instructions at waterlogged points.

Ganga Crosses Highest Flood Level At Gandhi Ghat

The rising Ganga has added to the challenges posed by heavy rainfall in Patna.

The river crossed its previous highest flood level at Gandhi Ghat on Saturday morning. The water level rose by around 10 cm within four hours, according to an official bulletin.

The situation has increased the risk of inundation in low-lying areas along the river. The Ganga is also flowing above the danger mark at several locations in Bihar, including Digha and Gandhi Ghat in Patna, as well as Buxar, Munger and Bhagalpur.

The rising river is being closely monitored as rainfall and increased inflows from upstream areas continue to affect water levels across the state.

Flood Preparedness Intensified

Authorities have stepped up preparedness measures in response to the rising water levels.

The Bihar government has deployed 33 NDRF and SDRF teams in vulnerable districts, including six NDRF and 27 SDRF teams. Nearly 700 government-operated boats have also been deployed to support evacuation and movement in affected areas.

Relief camps and community kitchens have been arranged in affected areas, while district administrations have been instructed to maintain close monitoring of vulnerable locations.

Low-Lying Areas Remain At Risk

The rising Ganga has already affected several areas along Patna’s riverfront, with water reaching ghats and cremation grounds in parts of the city.

The combination of heavy rainfall and high river levels has raised concerns about drainage in low-lying parts of Patna. Authorities are monitoring water levels and flood-prone areas as the situation develops.

Residents in vulnerable locations have been advised to remain alert and follow instructions issued by the district administration and disaster-response agencies.

Ganga Remains High Across Bihar

The flood situation is not confined to Patna. The Ganga and several other major rivers, including the Gandak, Kosi and Punpun, are flowing above danger levels at multiple locations across Bihar.

Patna, Bhagalpur, Munger and Vaishali are among the districts facing the impact of rising river levels.

With river levels remaining high, authorities are maintaining round-the-clock preparedness and monitoring vulnerable areas for any further deterioration.
