Bihar News: Students aspiring to pursue medical education in Bihar have received a major boost with two new medical colleges getting approval to start MBBS courses from the 2026-27 academic session.
The National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has granted permission to begin MBBS programmes at Shri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital in Samastipur and Government Medical College in Chhapra, Saran.
The two institutions have received Letters of Permission (LOP) from the NMC and will initially admit 50 MBBS students each, creating a total of 100 new MBBS seats in the state.
Two New Medical Colleges to Start MBBS Courses
The Shri Ram Janki Medical College and Hospital in Samastipur and Government Medical College in Chhapra will begin their MBBS programmes with 50 seats each from the upcoming academic session.
The expansion is expected to benefit students from Samastipur, Saran and neighbouring districts by providing them with access to medical education closer to home. It could also reduce the need for students to move to other cities for pursuing MBBS.
More Trained Doctors for Bihar
The launch of MBBS courses at the two institutions is expected to strengthen Bihar’s medical education infrastructure and increase the availability of trained doctors in the coming years.
The medical colleges will also be linked with hospitals, creating scope for expanding specialist healthcare services and modern treatment facilities in the respective regions.
Health Minister Welcomes NMC Approval
Health Minister Nishant Kumar expressed gratitude to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare following the approval for starting MBBS courses at the two colleges.
He said coordinated efforts by the Centre and the Bihar government were helping expand medical education and healthcare infrastructure across the state.
The minister also said the government would ensure that the colleges have the required faculty and resources to provide students with a quality academic environment.
Focus on Modern Healthcare Facilities
The expansion is expected to extend beyond MBBS education, with the associated hospitals set to benefit from increased medical infrastructure, specialist services and modern healthcare facilities.
The government aims to make quality and specialist healthcare more accessible to people closer to their homes.
With 100 additional MBBS seats approved in Samastipur and Chhapra, Bihar is also moving towards greater decentralisation of medical education while strengthening the infrastructure and human resources available at its medical colleges and affiliated hospitals.
