Patna: Bihar’s Water Resources Department has issued a warning for downstream areas of the Ganga after the river crossed the Highest Flood Level (HFL) at Gandhi Ghat in Patna.
The department said the increased water pressure is expected to move downstream and could affect water levels at Hathidah and other downstream gauge stations over the next one to three days.
Officials have warned that the Ganga could potentially cross the previous HFL at Hathidah, prompting authorities to maintain heightened vigilance in vulnerable areas.
Five Districts Asked To Remain Vigilant
Special caution has been advised in Ganga-side areas of Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur and Katihar.
The department has directed concerned officials and field-level authorities to remain alert as the rising water level at Gandhi Ghat moves downstream.
Authorities have also been asked to continuously monitor river levels and assess the situation at vulnerable locations.
Embankments And Low-Lying Areas Under Monitoring
Officials have been instructed to regularly monitor the river, embankments, vulnerable sites and low-lying areas.
The department has advised authorities to take precautionary measures in advance wherever required rather than waiting for water levels to rise further.
All concerned departmental and field engineers have been directed to keep flood-control resources, equipment and machinery ready for immediate deployment if necessary.
Public Advised To Avoid Unnecessary River Visits
Residents in the affected downstream areas have been advised to remain cautious and avoid going unnecessarily close to the river.
The local administration has also been advised to closely monitor boat operations, prevent overloading and ensure that people receive regular information about the situation.
Authorities have urged residents to follow official advisories and prioritise safety as the Ganga’s rising water level moves towards downstream districts.
