Patna: Senior officials of the Urban Development and Housing Department on September 6 inspected major drainage pumping stations (DPS) along the Danapur and Digha canals to review the city’s preparedness as the water level of the Ganga continues to rise.
Vinay Kumar, Principal Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department and district in-charge of Patna, and Animesh Kumar Parashar, Secretary of the department and managing director of BUIDCO, jointly inspected the facilities during the evening.
DPS To Remain On 24×7 Alert
Kumar directed the concerned engineers to keep all drainage pumping station units on 24×7 alert in view of the rising river level.
He instructed officials to ensure immediate action in case of an emergency and maintain operational readiness at the pumping stations.
Parashar sought details from officials on the capacity of pumps, diesel storage, availability of diesel generator sets and the cleaning of gratings at the facilities.
Night Vigilance Along Riverbank
Officials were also directed to maintain special vigilance during the night and keep sandbags ready at vulnerable locations along the riverbank.
According to the department, the measures are aimed at ensuring that the city’s drainage system continues to function without interruption despite the rising water level of the Ganga.
BUIDCO teams have been instructed to remain prepared to respond to any emergency related to drainage and waterlogging.
