Patna: Train operations on the Patna-Gaya rail section are expected to return towards normal from Wednesday after the water level of the Punpun River stabilised.
Railway authorities have decided to resume train movement on the down line of Bridge No. 21, located between Punpun and Parsa Bazar stations. As a safety precaution, trains will initially be permitted to cross the bridge at a maximum speed of 10 km/h.
The down line has remained closed since September 4 after rising water levels in the Punpun River prompted railway authorities to suspend operations as a precautionary measure.
Bridge and river levels under watch
Railway officials and engineers are maintaining continuous surveillance of the bridge, track and Punpun River water level.
Engineers began preparations to restore operations on the down line on Tuesday evening. The speed restriction may be revised if the water level and condition of the bridge remain stable.
Officials said operational arrangements will be changed immediately if the situation deteriorates.
36 trains affected in four days
The suspension of the down line disrupted train services between Patna and Gaya, resulting in the cancellation of several MEMU services and diversion of some long-distance trains.
According to the information provided by railway authorities, 36 trains were affected over the four-day period, causing considerable inconvenience to passengers.
The restoration of the down line is expected to ease the disruption and reduce the need for MEMU cancellations and long-distance train diversions.

Railway officials said the situation will continue to be monitored closely, with passenger services expected to benefit as operations on the Patna-Gaya section gradually return to normal.
