Patna: The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) of Bihar launched searches at multiple locations linked to Rajendra Kumar, a Superintending Engineer with the Minor Water Resources Department, on Friday in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets case.
The sudden arrival of the SVU team at Jal Bhavan in Patna triggered activity among officials and employees at the Minor Water Resources Department office.
Kumar is currently posted as Superintending Engineer in the department’s Chapra circle and is also holding additional charge related to monitoring in the department.
Case Involves Alleged Disproportionate Assets of Over Rs 3 Crore
According to preliminary information, an alleged disproportionate assets case involving more than Rs 3 crore has been registered against Kumar.
The SVU has initiated searches as part of its investigation into the alleged accumulation of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The searches are aimed at examining documents and records related to properties, financial transactions and other assets allegedly linked to the officer.
Searches Conducted at Six Locations
The SVU team is conducting a search at the Jal Bhavan office in Patna along with five other locations in Bihar associated with the officer.
Officials are examining relevant documents and financial records during the operation. The searches are expected to help investigators establish details of the assets and transactions under scrutiny.
Further details are expected to emerge after the search operation and examination of the seized or collected records.
Mumbai Property Also Under Vigilance Scanner
Investigators are also examining a property allegedly purchased by Kumar in the Panvel area of Mumbai.
According to the information available, he purchased around 75 decimal of land in Panvel, with its current value estimated at approximately Rs 1.75 crore.
The property is among the assets being examined as part of the disproportionate assets investigation.
Financial Records and Property Documents Being Examined
The SVU team is checking documents related to the officer’s properties, financial transactions and other assets during the searches.
Investigators are expected to compare the assets identified during the operation with Kumar’s known sources of income to determine whether any disproportionate assets were allegedly accumulated.
The investigation is currently underway, and further information is likely to emerge after the completion of the searches and detailed scrutiny of the records.
