Arwal/Patna: After nearly 25 years of waiting, Arwal has finally received its first full-fledged district court. The district court and the courts of the Principal District and Sessions Judge and other judicial officers were inaugurated on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
The development marks a significant milestone for Arwal, which was carved out of Jehanabad on August 20, 2001.
Residents No Longer Need to Travel 35 Km
Before the establishment of the district court, residents of Arwal had to travel around 35 km to Jehanabad for several legal proceedings.
With the new district court now operational, residents will be able to access judicial services within the district. The move is expected to save people both time and travel expenses while making access to justice more convenient.
Arwal Gets Full District Court Status
Arwal was earlier part of the Jehanabad judicial division. The district took its first step towards having an independent judicial setup on May 20, 2015, when the Sub-Divisional Judicial Division was inaugurated.
On December 7, 2024, the then Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice Dr Anshuman, inaugurated the Arwal Civil Court building. Two Additional District and Sessions Judges were also appointed.
The inauguration on September 10, 2026, has now given Arwal the status of a full judicial division.
First Principal District and Sessions Judge Takes Charge
Principal District and Sessions Judge Prajesh Kumar described the development as a historic milestone for Arwal.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, he said taking charge as the first Principal District and Sessions Judge of the district was both an honour and a significant responsibility.
He also emphasised that the new judicial setup would ensure that people from Arwal would no longer have to travel to Jehanabad for justice.
Court Inaugurated by Patna High Court Acting Chief Justice
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice Sudhir Singh, who formally inaugurated the court through a remote-controlled ceremony.
Before the inauguration, Law Secretary Baliram Dubey read out the notification granting Arwal the full judicial division status.
A newly constructed Excise Court building in Jehanabad was also inaugurated virtually during the programme.
New Judicial Infrastructure for Arwal
The inauguration also included the opening of residential facilities for judicial officers and other personnel.
The new judicial infrastructure is expected to strengthen the district’s legal and administrative framework and make court services more accessible to residents.
Judicial Officers Attend Inauguration
Additional District and Sessions Judge-I Ravi Ranjan Mishra, Additional District and Sessions Judge-II Pritam Kumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate and In-charge Judge Manish Kumar Pandey, Sub-Judge-I Nand Kishore, Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Jyoti Kumari, Judicial Magistrates Raj Parashar and Saurabh Kumar, along with other judicial officers from the Jehanabad judicial division, attended the event.
The establishment of the full district court marks a major step in Arwal’s judicial development, nearly a quarter of a century after the district was created.
