Patna: Bihar’s traditional flavours are set to receive international attention as sattu and makhana have been included in the welcome kit prepared for foreign delegates attending the BRICS Summit in Delhi.
The inclusion of the two Bihar products has been welcomed by Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who described it as a proud moment for the state and an important step towards giving Bihar’s local products a global identity.

Reacting to the development, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary expressed happiness over the inclusion of sattu and makhana in the BRICS welcome kit.
He said the two products represent Bihar’s food traditions, local identity and growing entrepreneurial potential. He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for helping bring Bihar’s traditional products to an international audience.
The Chief Minister linked the development with the vision of ‘Local to Global’, saying that Bihar’s local products would gain greater recognition through their presence at an international platform.
Foreign Delegates to Experience India’s Culinary Diversity
The BRICS Summit is also expected to showcase the diversity of Indian cuisine to international delegates.
Traditional and popular dishes from different parts of India are being included in the culinary offerings planned for the guests. The reported menu includes dishes such as ragi dosa, bajra upma, Kashmiri pulao, Hyderabadi biryani and Lucknowi and Awadhi kebabs.
Quinoa biryani and other regional dishes are also expected to feature in the spread, giving foreign delegates an opportunity to experience flavours from different parts of India.

Sattu has long been an important part of Bihar’s traditional food culture. Made primarily from roasted grains and pulses, it is widely consumed in different forms across the state.
