Patna : The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has added 4,771 new properties to its property tax net between April and the first week of September during the 2026-27 financial year, as part of a mission-mode campaign to strengthen its revenue base.

The initiative is being carried out under the direction of Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, with the civic body seeking to increase its own revenue without putting an additional financial burden on the government. The corporation is also focusing on improving the accuracy of property tax assessments and ensuring better compliance among property owners.

The newly included properties were assessed through self-assessment. According to PMC, 67.13% of property owners have already paid their tax on the spot after completing the assessment process. The civic body said the figure reflects increasing awareness among residents about property tax and indicates a positive trend in tax compliance.

Patliputra Circle Records Highest Number Of New Properties

Among the six municipal circles, Patliputra recorded the highest number of new properties, with 1,196 properties brought under the tax net during the period. Nutan Rajdhani followed with 1,012 properties, while Kankarbagh recorded 803, Azimabad 796, Bankipur 495 and Patna City 469.

Of the total 4,771 property owners, 3,306 completed the self-assessment process at municipal counters, while 1,465 property owners used the online system to complete their assessments.

4,911 Existing Properties Reassessed

Alongside adding new properties, PMC has placed significant emphasis on ensuring that existing property tax records are accurate and updated. During the same period, 4,911 properties underwent reassessment.

These properties were reassessed in cases where their structure, built-up area or other relevant details had changed or expanded after the original tax assessment. The corporation said property owners voluntarily coming forward to update their assessments is a positive sign of tax compliance and responsible civic participation.

137 Properties Found With Mismatched Details

PMC’s field surveys have also identified 137 properties where the actual details were found to be different from the information recorded in their previous tax assessments.

The corporation reassessed these properties and imposed a 100% penalty in accordance with the applicable rules. PMC said the exercise is not aimed merely at increasing tax collection but also at ensuring that property records accurately reflect the current status of properties.

The civic body said its broader objective is to make the property tax system more transparent, organised and effective, while ensuring that property owners are taxed according to the actual details of their properties.

SMS, Calls And Door-To-Door Campaigns

PMC is continuing its awareness campaign to encourage property owners to complete self-assessment and pay their property tax on time. The corporation is sending SMS messages to property owners every day, while its revenue teams are conducting door-to-door campaigns across the city.

The municipal control room is also contacting property owners by phone and encouraging them to complete tax assessments and make timely payments. The corporation said these efforts are intended to improve awareness as well as compliance.

Three-Tier Revenue Enhancement Campaign

The civic body has also launched a three-tier special revenue enhancement campaign across all municipal circles from Friday. The campaign focuses on bringing new properties that remain outside the tax net into the assessment system, reassessing and updating old properties where changes have taken place, and recovering pending property tax from defaulters.

Through the campaign, PMC aims to bring more properties under taxation, ensure that assessments reflect the actual and updated status of properties and accelerate the recovery of outstanding dues.

The corporation said strengthening its own revenue sources will help create additional resources for the expansion of civic facilities and delivery of better-quality municipal services without placing an additional financial burden on the government.

The latest figures indicate that PMC is pursuing a dual approach to property taxation expanding the tax base by identifying new properties while improving the accuracy of assessments for existing properties. The civic body expects the ongoing revenue enhancement measures to improve tax compliance and strengthen its financial resources for urban services.
