The Bihar government has increased the monthly stipend for postgraduate medical and dental students studying in government medical and dental colleges across the state. The Health Department issued the revised stipend order on September 11, 2026, with the new rates applicable from January 1, 2026.
Under the revised structure, first-year PG students will receive Rs 92,800 per month, while second-year students will receive Rs 1,02,000. The monthly stipend for third-year students has been increased to Rs 1,12,200.
The earlier monthly rates were Rs 82,000 for first-year students, Rs 90,200 for second-year students and Rs 99,220 for third-year students.
How Much Has The Stipend Increased?
The revised rates mean first-year students will receive Rs 10,800 more per month than under the previous structure. The increase for second-year students is Rs 11,800 per month, while third-year students will receive an additional Rs 12,980 per month.
The revised rates will apply to PG students enrolled in government medical and dental colleges in Bihar. The government said the increase will provide greater financial support to students during their postgraduate training and service period.
Government Focuses On Specialist Doctors
Health Minister Nishant said the government was taking continuous steps to strengthen medical education and healthcare services in Bihar.
He described PG students as future specialist doctors who will play an important role in the state’s healthcare system. According to the minister, the increase in stipend will provide greater encouragement to students and contribute to creating a better environment for medical education.
The government said its objective is not limited to increasing the number of medical institutions. It also aims to develop specialist medical manpower capable of providing better and quality healthcare services to people across the state.
Focus On Training And Medical Infrastructure
The Health Minister said the state government remains committed to improving the quality of medical education, infrastructure in medical colleges and medical human resources.
He said better training and facilities, combined with a stronger specialist workforce, are necessary to further strengthen Bihar’s healthcare system.
The government said the stipend increase is therefore intended to benefit students during their postgraduate education while also contributing to the long-term availability of specialist doctors and quality healthcare services in Bihar.
Revised Rates Effective From January
Although the revised stipend order was issued on September 11, 2026, the new rates will be applicable from January 1, 2026.
The decision covers postgraduate students pursuing medical and dental courses in government institutions and represents a broader effort by the state to support medical trainees while strengthening its specialist healthcare workforce.
The government said improving training, facilities and medical manpower remains a priority as Bihar works to further strengthen its healthcare and medical education system.
