Patna: The weather in Bihar is expected to change on September 15, with rain, thunderstorms and strong winds likely across several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department has warned that wind speeds could reach 30 to 40 kmph in some areas and advised residents to remain cautious.
The impact is expected to be more pronounced across north-central, north-eastern and south-central Bihar, where thunderstorms and rainfall are likely at several locations.
Rain likely in north-central Bihar
Rain is forecast at some places in Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Vaishali, Sheohar and Samastipur.
In north-eastern Bihar, showers are possible in Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia, Katihar, Madhepura and Saharsa.
Patna among districts facing weather change
South-central Bihar is also likely to experience rain and thunderstorms. The affected districts include Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Begusarai, Lakhisarai and Jehanabad.
Rain may also occur in parts of Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Munger and Khagaria in south-eastern Bihar.
In north-western Bihar, isolated rainfall is possible in West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran.
Similarly, one or two places in Rohtas, Bhabua, Bhojpur, Buxar, Arwal and Aurangabad may receive rain.
Multiple weather systems remain active
According to the Patna Meteorological Centre’s September 14 bulletin, a monsoon trough remains active in the vicinity of Bihar. It extends towards the north-west Bay of Bengal through a low-pressure area, passing via Rajgarh, Damoh, Pendra Road, Rourkela and Digha.
A cyclonic circulation in the upper atmosphere also persists over the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, potentially influencing weather conditions in Bihar.
Another trough extends from the east-central Arabian Sea to Jharkhand, passing through Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and northern Chhattisgarh. It remains active up to around 3.1 km above sea level.
Meanwhile, the earlier cyclonic circulation associated with south-west Rajasthan, Gujarat and south-west Madhya Pradesh has weakened.
Strong winds and lightning prompt caution
The combination of these weather systems could result in cloudy skies, rain and thunderstorms across several parts of Bihar on September 15, with winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph in some areas.
The India Meteorological Department has advised residents to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and lightning and move indoors, preferably into a concrete building.
People should stay away from tall trees, electricity poles and electrical equipment during storms. Residents have also been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor travel during periods of rain and lightning.
