Motihari/Patna : The Motihari police department has dismissed four constables from service following a departmental inquiry into alleged irregularities involving cash recovered during a police raid.
The dismissed personnel have been identified as Santosh Kumar, Gautam Kumar Yadav, Krishna Kumar and Om Prakash. The departmental inquiry found them guilty of dereliction of duty and misconduct.
The action relates to a case registered at Govindganj police station concerning an alleged robbery and fraud incident in which a resident of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, had reported being robbed of Rs 19 lakh, two mobile phones and a gold chain.
Police Team Conducts Raid in November 2025
A special police team had been formed on the instructions of senior officers to recover the allegedly looted property and arrest the accused.
On the night of November 21, 2025, the team raided the house of a primary accused, identified as Chandan Singh.
During the raid, police recovered Rs 4.15 lakh in cash, 10 gold-coloured biscuits and a gold-coloured chain.
The four constables who were part of the raid team were accused of taking some cash from the recovered bag and concealing it.
Rs 3 Lakh Recovered After Questioning
After the alleged irregularity came to light, the four constables were questioned.
During questioning, they reportedly disclosed that Rs 3 lakh had been removed and hidden inside a vehicle. The money was subsequently recovered and formally seized.
A separate case was registered at Sahebganj police station in Muzaffarpur on the basis of a complaint filed by Govindganj SHO Raj Kumar Mishra. The four constables were arrested and produced before a court.
Departmental Inquiry Confirms Charges
Following the incident, all four constables were suspended and departmental proceedings were initiated.
They were asked to submit explanations, but their responses were found unsatisfactory by the department.
An Additional Superintendent of Police, Cyber Crime, East Champaran, Motihari, was appointed as the inquiry officer, while a police sub-inspector was appointed as the presenting officer.
During the departmental proceedings, the inquiry team examined available evidence and official records.
The inquiry report held all four constables responsible for dereliction of duty and arbitrary conduct, confirming the charges against them.
Service Terminated With Immediate Effect
Based on the departmental inquiry report, the police department ordered the dismissal of Santosh Kumar, Gautam Kumar Yadav, Krishna Kumar and Om Prakash from service with immediate effect.
The departmental order stated that the allegations reflected misconduct and ethical violations and had affected the image of the police force.
The dismissal was carried out under the applicable provisions of the Bihar Government Servants Classification, Control and Appeal Rules and relevant police regulations.
