Patna: Rainfall activity is expected to increase across Bihar from September 23 to 28, with Patna Meteorological Centre forecasting light to moderate rain at most places and heavy to very heavy rainfall at some locations during the period.
The forecast comes as a low-pressure area over the west-central and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify over the next 48 hours. The system is forecast to reach near the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coast around the morning of September 23.
Rain To Pick Up From September 23
According to the weather centre, the developing weather system is likely to bring increased rainfall activity across the state from September 23.
Most parts of Bihar are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, while some districts could experience heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The district-wise warning map issued with the press release shows weather alerts extending across different parts of Bihar between September 23 and 27, with the intensity and areas of warning varying from day to day.
Strong Winds Also Possible
Along with rain and thunderstorms, surface winds could reach 40-50 kmph at some places during the period, according to the Meteorological Centre, Patna.
The weather system is expected to continue moving west-northwestwards after reaching the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha coast, while an associated north-south trough is also extending towards the circulation linked to the low-pressure area.
Farmers Advised To Protect Harvested Crops
With the period coinciding with the harvesting of some Kharif crops, the weather centre has advised farmers to move harvested produce to safe locations and properly store crops kept for drying in open areas.
Farmers have also been advised to temporarily avoid irrigation of vegetable crops.
Lightning Precautions
The Meteorological Centre has advised people to remain indoors during lightning and avoid open fields, tall trees, water bodies and electricity poles.
People have also been advised to follow instructions issued by local authorities and the disaster management department during severe weather.
