Patna: Patna Metro’s first interchange station at Khemnichak is now expected to become operational by December, two months later than the earlier October deadline.
The opening has been delayed because construction work at the station is yet to be completed. According to an official, work at Khemnichak is progressing rapidly.
Khemnichak To Connect Two Metro Routes
Khemnichak is an important interchange point as two major metro routes — Malahi Pakri and Mithapur — pass through the station.
The station will be opened for passengers only after construction work on both routes is completed.
The 3.1-km elevated stretch between Khemnichak and Mithapur is separately targeted to become operational by June 2027.
Finishing Work Begins At Five Corridor-2 Stations
Under Corridor-2, finishing work is set to begin at five underground stations between Moinul Haq Stadium and Patna Junction.
The stations are:
– Moinul Haq Stadium
– Patna University
– PMCH
– Gandhi Maidan
– Akashvani
The civil work will include strengthening and completing tunnel and station structures, along with plastering and other finishing-related work.
Officials said that once the finishing work is completed, electrical installations and track-laying will begin.
Separate tenders will be issued for installing lifts and escalators at the stations.
The Moinul Haq Stadium–Patna Junction section is targeted for commissioning by 2028.
Patna Junction And Rajendra Nagar Finishing From 2027
Finishing work at the underground Patna Junction and Rajendra Nagar metro stations is scheduled to begin in 2027.
Construction near Patna Junction presents a major challenge as underground work has to be carried out while surface traffic remains operational.
Delays in securing land have also affected construction progress in this section.
Patna Junction will have a three-level underground interchange station, allowing passengers to change trains between Corridor-1 and Corridor-2.
7.5-Km Up Tunnel Completed
There has also been progress in tunnel construction between Rajendra Nagar and Patna Junction.
The 7.5-km up-line tunnel on the stretch has been completed. Work on the down-line tunnel is expected to be completed by October.
Meanwhile, construction of the ramp between Rajendra Nagar and Malahi Pakri is underway and is targeted for completion by December.
Corridor-1 Tunnel Work To Begin In November
Under Corridor-1, construction of the underground metro tunnel between Patna Junction and Rukanpura is scheduled to begin in November.
The underground section between Patna Junction and Mithapur is still awaiting final approval.
Beyond Rukanpura, construction of the elevated metro route towards Danapur, via Pataliputra station, is progressing.
Finishing work on the section up to Mithapur is expected to begin in the new year.
Patna Metro Construction Enters Multiple Stages
The latest construction update shows different sections of the Patna Metro project moving through different stages, from tunnelling and civil construction to finishing, electrical work and track installation.
The delayed Khemnichak interchange is expected to become a key passenger connection once both linked routes are ready, while the underground stations between Moinul Haq Stadium and Patna Junction are moving towards the finishing stage.
With several sections targeted for completion between 2027 and 2028, construction activity is expected to continue across both metro corridors over the coming months.
