Patna: Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna (CIMP) held its 15th convocation at the CIMP Auditorium on Saturday, marking another milestone in the institute’s academic journey and recognising the achievements of its graduating students, faculty and staff.
Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chairperson of the Law Commission of India and former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest. CIMP Director Prof. (Dr.) Rana Singh and Development Management Institute, Patna Director Dr. Devi Prasad Mishra were also present.
The ceremony began with an academic procession, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and presentation of a sapling to the Chief Guest.
CM Samrat Choudhary’s Message Read At Convocation
A message from Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who is also Chairman of the CIMP Board of Governors, was read during the ceremony.
The Chief Minister congratulated CIMP on its journey since its establishment in 2008 and highlighted its emergence as a centre of excellence in management education with national and international linkages.
He also emphasised the role of management education in nation building and urged the graduating students to use their knowledge and skills for the development of Bihar and the country.
CIMP Expands Academic Focus With AI
Presenting the Director’s Report, Prof. (Dr.) Rana Singh outlined the institute’s academic, research, entrepreneurship and global engagement initiatives.
CIMP’s flagship PGDM programme is NBA accredited and recognised as equivalent to an MBA by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The institute has also applied for eligibility for AACSB accreditation.
The institute has expanded its academic portfolio by introducing a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Analytics, covering areas such as generative AI, data automation and the responsible use of emerging technologies.
The Director also highlighted scholarship support from the Bihar government, under which 80–90% of the fees of the PGDM batch have been waived through scholarships, according to the institute.
Under the NITI Aayog State Support Mission, CIMP has been designated as a Lead Knowledge Institution, supporting policy research and evidence-based recommendations for the Planning and Development Department, with a focus on the broader vision of Viksit Bihar 2037.
CIMP Ecosystem Supports 374 Startups
CIMP said its entrepreneurship ecosystem, anchored by the CIMP Business Incubation Foundation (CIMP-BIF) and B-HUB Maurya Lok, has supported 374 cumulative startups since January 2023.
The institute has also filed 31 patents, primarily in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
During the academic year, CIMP conducted 24 Management Development Programmes (MDPs) for 2,229 participants from departments including MSME, Health and State Planning.
The institute also completed 67 social impact assessment projects and eight consultancy projects, covering areas including climate-resilient agriculture and public policy evaluation.
CIMP signed 23 MoUs, comprising 13 educational and 10 industrial collaborations. International academic partners include the University of Bridgeport and Georgia State University.
Graduates Receive Diplomas And Academic Honours
The graduating students were formally conferred their diplomas by the Director on behalf of the Board of Governors.
Raj Laxmi received the Gold Medal for Best Scholastic Performance, while Anish Ahsan received the Gold Medal for Best All-Round Performance.
The Meritorious Girl Student Scholarship was awarded to Raj Laxmi for the first prize, Shikha Singh for the second prize and Anjali Sinha for the third prize.
The PGDM-IEV programme, supported by the Department of Industries, Government of Bihar, was also part of the graduating cohort.
Faculty And Staff Receive Awards
The convocation also recognised faculty and staff members for their contributions to the institute.
Dr. Rajasshrie Pillai, Professor and Assistant Dean, received the Best Researcher Award for her research contributions, including seven Scopus-indexed publications during 2025–26 and her inclusion in the Stanford University Top 2% Scientists list.
Prof. Ranjit Tiwari, Associate Professor, received the Best Teacher Award for his contribution to teaching, quality assurance and accreditation initiatives, including IQAC, NBA and AACSB-related work.
Mr. Vivek Kashyap, Senior Administrative Officer, received the Best Officer Award for his efficiency and contribution to institutional development.
The Best Staff Member Award was jointly presented to Mr. Sumit Kumar, Senior Assistant, and Mr. Vidya Sagar Ram, Office Assistant, for their teamwork and willingness to take on additional responsibilities.
Justice Maheshwari Urges Graduates To Lead With Purpose
Delivering the convocation address, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari urged graduates to combine professional excellence with ethical responsibility and constitutional values.
He outlined three principles — Purpose, Prudence and Perseverance — as important qualities for future managers and leaders.
Justice Maheshwari emphasised that leadership should extend beyond financial success to the welfare of people and institutions, while growth should be guided by prudence and long-term responsibility.
Drawing on the example of the Wright Brothers and Professor Langley, he highlighted the importance of learning from failure and treating setbacks as information for improvement.
Using the analogy of an orchestra, he said individual excellence must be complemented by discipline, coordination and harmony to achieve meaningful collective outcomes. He connected this idea with the constitutional principle of fraternity and the importance of unity amid diversity.
He also urged the graduates to develop the habit of pausing before making important decisions, allowing their conscience to distinguish between what is convenient and what is right.
Emphasising the relationship between rights and duties, Justice Maheshwari called upon the graduates to move beyond awareness of their rights towards a stronger consciousness of their responsibilities towards society and the nation.
Graduates Take Pledge
The graduating students took a pledge administered by Prof. Santosh Kumar, committing themselves to ethical conduct, responsible citizenship, professional excellence, healthy practices and service to the nation.
The pledge also called on the graduates to guard against narrow loyalties and sectarian prejudices.
The ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Prof. Ranjit Tiwari, followed by the singing of the Bihar Geet and a group photograph.
The 15th convocation marked another milestone in CIMP’s continuing focus on academic excellence, research, entrepreneurship, social impact and global engagement, according to the institute.
