Jamui: Two more people have been arrested in connection with the alleged harassment of a 14-year-old girl in Jamui and the subsequent circulation of a video of the incident on social media, police said.
The two men arrested on Sunday have been identified as Saurabh Ram and Chhotu Ram. Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal confirmed the arrests and said investigators were questioning all the accused to determine their individual roles in the incident.
Police are also investigating the people who allegedly recorded and circulated the video on social media. Further raids are underway and more arrests may follow, the SP said.
What happened in Jamui?
According to police, the incident took place on September 19 in the Marwa Pahad area of Jamui, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly harassed and subjected to inappropriate behaviour on the road.
A video of the incident surfaced on social media on September 21. After receiving information about the video, police identified the girl, registered a case and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter.
Three minors allegedly seen in the video were subsequently apprehended and sent before the Juvenile Justice Board, according to police.
Two alleged main accused injured in police action
Police have identified Hareram Yadav and Nandan Yadav as the main accused in the case. According to the police account, both were found hiding in bushes near a river on September 22.
Police said Hareram was injured while officers were attempting to apprehend him. Nandan was allegedly injured after police returned fire when he fired at the police team, according to the police.
Nandan is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital, while Hareram was produced before a court on September 23 and sent to 14 days of judicial custody, police said.
Police investigating video circulation
Apart from investigating those allegedly involved in the original incident, police are examining the role of people who recorded and circulated the video.
Police said cyber investigation is underway to identify those responsible for disseminating the footage on social media.
The authorities have so far reported multiple arrests in the case, including adults and minors. The minors have been referred to the Juvenile Justice Board, while an adult accused has been sent to jail, according to police.
