Patna: The meeting hall at the Advocate General’s office in the Patna High Court will be named after late senior advocate and former Bihar Advocate General Ram Balak Mahto, with his portrait set to be unveiled at a ceremony in the first week of next month.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Patna High Court Chief Justice V. Kameswar Rao are scheduled to unveil the portrait at the ceremony.
Rs 5,000 Monthly Stipend For New Advocates
Advocate General S.D. Sanjay said the event will also mark the launch of a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for newly enrolled advocates.
The scheme will cover advocates who enrolled with the Bihar State Bar Council on or after January 1, 2024, subject to eligibility conditions.
Advocates whose parents are financially well-off will not be eligible for the benefit. Those who enrol as advocates after retirement have also been excluded from the scheme.
Around 80 applications have already been examined, according to Sanjay. The disbursement process will begin once the number of applications reaches 100.
119 Law Officers Appointed
Sanjay said 119 law officers have so far been appointed to represent the state government’s position before the Patna High Court.
He said the government is focusing on strengthening the representation of its cases and ensuring prompt action in judicial matters.
Measures are also being taken to expedite trials, including the proposed appointment of Special Public Prosecutors in cases requiring faster prosecution.
Special Prosecutor Proposed In Reetlal Yadav Case
A recommendation has been made to appoint advocate Ram Vinay Singh as Special Public Prosecutor in the case involving former Danapur MLA Reetlal Yadav.
The proposed appointment is part of efforts to accelerate prosecution in serious cases.
250 Prosecutor Posts To Be Filled
The process for appointing 200 Assistant Public Prosecutors (APPs) and 50 Senior Public Prosecutors for the Patna High Court is also expected to move forward soon.
An opportunity to apply for the positions will be provided again, with the selection and appointment process to proceed after the application process is completed.
Honouring Ram Balak Mahto’s Legacy
The naming of the Advocate General’s office meeting hall after Ram Balak Mahto is intended to commemorate his contribution as a senior advocate and former Advocate General of Bihar.
The initiatives announced alongside the ceremony combine recognition of a prominent member of the state’s legal fraternity with financial support for eligible advocates at the beginning of their careers.
The proposed appointments of law officers and prosecutors are also aimed at strengthening the state’s legal representation and facilitating faster prosecution in cases before the courts.
