Patna: Motorists travelling through Patna at night will need to plan their routes carefully from October 1 to 8, as several major flyovers and bridges will be temporarily closed for traffic during scheduled technical inspections.

The Road Construction Department will conduct load testing and condition surveys of selected bridges and flyovers. The technical testing will be carried out under the supervision of IIT Patna.

According to the announced schedule, the affected structures will face traffic restrictions for around two hours, from 2 am to 4 am, on designated dates.

R-Block Flyover to Close on October 1

The first traffic restriction will be imposed on the R-Block Road Flyover during the night of October 1.

Traffic movement will remain suspended from 2 am to 4 am to facilitate the technical inspection and load testing.

GPO Circle-Chiraiyatand Stretch on October 2

On October 2, technical testing will be conducted on the stretch between GPO Circle and Chiraiyatand Flyover.

Vehicles will not be allowed to use the affected section between 2 am and 4 am during the testing period.

Chiraiyatand ROB to Close on October 5

The testing schedule will continue on October 5, when traffic will be restricted on the Chiraiyatand Road Overbridge (ROB).

Motorists travelling through the area during the scheduled hours may need to use alternative routes.

Kankarbagh Flyover to Face Restriction on October 6

On October 6, load testing and the condition survey will be carried out on the Kankarbagh Flyover.

Traffic will remain restricted from 2 am to 4 am, potentially affecting vehicles travelling towards or through Kankarbagh during the late-night and early-morning hours.

Karbigahia Route to Meethapur Overbridge on October 7

On October 7, traffic restrictions will be imposed on the flyover route from Chiraiyatand towards the Meethapur Overbridge through Karbigahia.

The affected route will remain closed between 2 am and 4 am for the scheduled technical assessment.

Bailey Road Bridge to Be Tested on October 8

The final restriction in the current schedule will be imposed on the Bailey Road Bridge on October 8.

Traffic movement will again be stopped for two hours, from 2 am to 4 am, to facilitate the technical testing.

Patna Flyover Closure Schedule

Date Location Restriction Time
October 1 R-Block Road Flyover 2 am–4 am
October 2 GPO Circle–Chiraiyatand Flyover stretch 2 am–4 am
October 5 Chiraiyatand ROB 2 am–4 am
October 6 Kankarbagh Flyover 2 am–4 am
October 7 Chiraiyatand–Meethapur Overbridge via Karbigahia 2 am–4 am
October 8 Bailey Road Bridge 2 am–4 am

Why Are the Flyovers Being Closed?

The temporary closures are part of load testing and condition surveys designed to assess the structural condition and load-bearing performance of the bridges and flyovers.

The technical assessment can help authorities determine whether structures are able to handle existing traffic loads and whether additional repair, maintenance or other measures are required.

Travellers Advised to Plan Routes in Advance

Traffic authorities have advised motorists travelling during the affected hours to plan their journeys in advance and use alternative routes wherever necessary.

The restrictions may particularly affect people travelling late at night towards railway stations, bus terminals, the airport and other parts of the city.

The schedule does not mean that all the flyovers will remain closed throughout the period. Only the designated structure or road section will face restrictions on its scheduled date, generally between 2 am and 4 am.

Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time and check traffic updates before beginning late-night journeys.
