Patna: The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Regional Office, Patna, will organise a two-day art workshop on sustainability, upcycling and creative innovation at Nalanda University, Rajgir, on October 3 and 4.
The workshop, titled “Kalā, Kaushal aur Sahabhāgitā – Upcycling, Sustainability & Creative Innovation”, is being organised under ICCR Patna’s Horizon Series Programme as part of Swachhta Pakhwada and to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti.
Over 200 Participants Expected
The programme is being organised in collaboration with Nalanda University, Rajgir, and will feature social artist and innovator Kumar Prashant, founder and director of the Centre of Resilience (CoR).
More than 200 participants are expected to attend the workshop, including students, artists, craftspeople, Self-Help Groups, community participants and others interested in sustainability and creative practices.
The programme will explore the links between art, traditional knowledge, sustainability and creative innovation through discussions and hands-on activities.
Focus On Sustainable Construction
The first day will include interactive sessions on sustainability, resilience and natural construction techniques.
A special lecture titled “Art, Sustainability and the Future” will also be organised.
Participants will be introduced to traditional construction techniques using materials such as bamboo, mud, straw and jute.
The sessions will also highlight Bihar’s indigenous construction knowledge and the potential of locally available resources for developing sustainable and environmentally conscious practices.
Upcycling And Circular Economy On Day Two
The second day, on October 4, will focus on upcycling, circular economy and responsible consumption.
Participants will take part in hands-on activities using discarded and everyday materials. These will include making utility bags from old cloth and denim, bird feeders from discarded containers and vertical planters from used plastic bottles.
They will also create decorative and functional objects using glass bottles and other reusable materials.
From Waste Materials To Useful Objects
The workshop is intended to provide participants with an opportunity to apply classroom and theoretical knowledge of sustainability through practical activities.
The organisers said the activities will demonstrate how discarded materials can be reimagined and converted into useful and artistic objects, while encouraging responsible consumption and reuse.
The programme also seeks to promote awareness about cleanliness, reuse and responsible management of discarded materials through participatory artistic activities.
Part Of ICCR’s Horizon Series
The two-day engagement is part of ICCR Patna’s Horizon Series, which aims to create platforms for cultural dialogue, experiential learning and engagement with contemporary social and environmental issues.
The Rajgir workshop will combine artistic practices with practical sustainability activities, bringing students, creative practitioners and community participants together around themes of reuse, traditional knowledge and environmental responsibility.
