Patna: Gold and silver prices moved higher on October 1, 2026, according to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA).

The price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold increased by Rs 799 to Rs 1.49 lakh. Gold was around Rs 1.48 lakh on September 30.

Silver also gained Rs 1,519 per kg to reach Rs 2.22 lakh, according to the rates cited in the source update.

Gold-Silver Rate Today: Why Prices Differ Across Cities

Gold prices can vary from one city to another because of differences in local demand, transportation costs and market conditions.

Four factors can influence local gold prices:

  • Transportation and security: Moving gold between cities involves fuel, transportation and security costs.
  • Purchase volume: Jewellery demand differs across regions and can influence local buying patterns.
  • Local jewellery associations: Local demand and supply conditions can affect the rates quoted by jewellers.
  • Old stock and purchase price: The price at which jewellers purchased their existing stock can influence the selling price.

Gold Up Rs 15,488 In 2026, Silver Down Rs 8,466

Gold and silver prices have fluctuated significantly during 2026.

On December 31, 2025, 10 grams of gold was priced at Rs 1.33 lakh. At the current rate of Rs 1.49 lakh, gold has become Rs 15,488 more expensive this year.

Silver, meanwhile, was priced at Rs 2.30 lakh per kg on December 31, 2025. At Rs 2.22 lakh now, it has declined by Rs 8,466.

Gold touched an all-time high of Rs 1.76 lakh per 10 grams on January 29, while silver also reached an all-time high of Rs 3.86 lakh per kg.

What To Check Before Buying Gold

Buyers should check the purity and prevailing rate before purchasing gold jewellery.

Buy BIS-hallmarked gold: Consumers should look for Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmarking on gold jewellery. The hallmark indicates the purity of the gold and includes an alphanumeric identification code.

Cross-check the price: Buyers should verify the weight and gold rate on the day of purchase through reliable sources. Gold prices differ according to purity, including 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold.
